Why I’m Trading "Heroic Bursts" for Boring Systems
Intensity makes for a great story. Consistency makes for a great life.
Why “Move Fast and Break Things” Eventually Just Breaks Things
Everyone loves "Day 1" of a startup. The press release. The funding news. The adrenaline. Very few people talk about "Day 47." Day 47 is when the sexy vision meets the unsexy reality of vendor onboarding logic, payroll compliance, and figuring out why the API broke at 3 AM.
Where Have All The Generalists Gone?
There are so many new technologies that allow for people to be laser focused. But what happens when everyone focuses on the trees, and nobody is looking at the forest? In the wake of this trend, we are boxing out the role for people that can see across boundaries and synthesize big ideas and look out for macro trends. Long live the generalist!
Virtuous Working While Working Virtually
What happens when work becomes...work? With almost everyone working from home, is it possible company culture falls to the wayside and becomes replaced with robotic, transactional relationships?
Go forth and be…mediocre!
We all find ourselves striving to be number one in everything we do. Is there some peace in accepting that sometimes, and more than we wish to admit, it's OK to just be OK? I think so.
Fix, grow, systematize, exit.
